Helping Brazil to Fifa Under-20 World Cup glory was 20-year old São Paulo striker Henrique. Finishing the tournament with five goals to his name, including a brace in the semi-final with a 2-0 victory over Mexico, Henrique was the stand-out performer of a very impressive Brazil side coached by Ney Franco. With Neymar and Lucas missing, Brazil still boasted a team consisting of the likes of Carlos Casemiro and Philippe Coutinho.
Carl Jenkinson is a left-back who is strong in the air and good on the ball. Arsene Wenger is a big admirer
Emmanuel Frimpong is a defensive midfielder tipped to become the new Vieira and will aim to partner Wilshere
Described as the next Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is seen as the future of Arsenal
This summer has never seen Arsenal's transfer policy come under so much scrutiny after the departures of skipper Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona and French duo Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy jumping ship to join the financially rewarding ambitions of Manchester City. On top of the departures of key players, many of the problematic positions have yet to be filled. The 8-2 thrashing by Manchester United at Old Trafford will not allay to those fears and will put further pressure on the tenure of Arsene Wenger at the Emirates. We look at the next generation of young starlets hoping to make their breakthrough.
First up is £12 million signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Having arrived in the summer from Southampton, the 17 year-old instantly raised eyebrows and was seen by the Arsenal faithful as yet another kid who needs to be nutured. Compared to Theo Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain has excellent natural raw pace and dribbling skills and is able to go past players with ease. A natural winger, Oxlade-Chamberlain can provide width and proved he had a natural eye for goal after scoring 10 goals in 41 league appearances last year to be voted in the PFA League One Team of the Year. Defensive midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong described as the next Patrick Vieira and tenacious midfielder Francis Coquelin who is a member of France's Under-20 side will also be looking to make their breakthrough.
Carl Jenkinson is a promising defender who featured nine time's for Charlton's first team before his move. Predominately a right-back he is also able to play at centre half and 6ft 1 inches is good in the air and good on the ball. Although born in England, Carl qualifies to represent both England and Finland through his mother. Ignasi Miguel is a cultured centre half who is technically excellent. Having arrived at the club at the age of 16, Miguel made his breakthrough last season when he made his debut in the FA Cup against Leyton Orient. He is also the reserve team captain.
Jacks Jebbs is currently our pick of the bunch of up and coming talent at academy level. A technically gifted central midfielder, Jebbs is arguably one of the finest talents to emerge from the club's Hale End Academy in recent years. This season he will be at the London Colney training camp full time after being promoted in to the Under-18 side along with Chuba Akpom.
Arsenal youth coach Steve Bould is particularly delighted to see Jebbs rewarded for his impressive performances. A regular at international level for England's Under-16s, Jebb has an exceptional range of passing and excellent vision. Many have tipped him to be the next Jack Wilshere and Wenger will be keeping a close eye on the precious talent.
