Douglas Costa is continuing to cause headlines in the Ukraine after his eye catching displays for Shaktar Donetsk, and taking his goal tally to 7 in just 18 appearances and contributing 5 assists. In his recent game against Arsenal Kiev, Douglas was the star of the show as his side went on to win 3-1, scoring a brace and providing an assist. With an already strong Brazilian contingent at Shaktar, Douglas has settled in quickly and appears to have adapted to the Ukraine league. He is now one of six Brazilians currently at Shaktar and joined along with Alex Teixeira during the winter transfer window. Douglas had been targeted as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, but Sir Alex Ferguson may have been reluctant to sanction yet another move for a Brazilian starlet having seen indifferent form of Anderson since he joined from FC Porto. Described as the next Ronaldinho, former Uefa Cup champions Shakhtar were quick to make their move for the wonderkid and paid a fee of €6 million, buying 80% of the players transfer rights. Previously impressing in his homeland for the previous two years at Gremo, Douglas has scouts flocking to watch him after a series of impressive performances for the Brazil Under-20 side. Technically gifted, with sublime vision, Douglas has an eye for goal and is also free-kick specialist. Signing a five-year deal, Douglas is expected to stay in the Ukraine for the next season as he gains experience and gets adapted to the European leagues before joining a bigger club in England, Spain or Italy. While he is undoubtedly talented, Douglas will need to be nurtured and mature as a

player, as he is still prone to pick uk cards and lose his head at times. Scouts are continuing to monitor his progress and he looks likely to have a bright career at the top, showing all the attributes needed to succeed on the international stage.
With new Brazil coach Mano Menezes recently naming his 24-man squad for next month's friendly international against the USA, it was somewhat of a surprise to see Douglas's name excluded but rest assured it will be a matter of when, not if he will get the call up. The new generation of Brazilian stars which includes Rafael da Silva, Neymar and David Luiz will need the creative flair that is Douglas.
