Milan Fail In Bid For Lamela

Argentine site Clarin reports that 18-year-old starlet Erik Lamela was the subject of a €12m bid from AC Milan this week, but his club River Plate were quick to turn it down. It is believed River are holding out for a fee closer to €20m. The Rossoneri who have touted Ronaldino around Europe for £7 million in the hope of sparking interest from the likes of Manchester City, Cheslea and Liverpool are looking to add some of South America's most exciting talents. Milan sporting director Ariedo Braida remained in South America after a trip to Brazil to discuss a possible move for midfielder Paulo Henrique of Santos. Lamela is an attacking midfielder who can also operate as a forward and scored his first senior goal for the club with Braida watching on. Milan plan to sign the player on a contract but allow the teenager to continue to develop in Argentina for another year before moving to Italy. The 18 year-old midfielder who was once subject of a bid from Barcelona at the age of 12 back in 2004, has been on the radar of Europe's elite for several years but is now a wanted man after making his first team breakthrough.

Meanwhile, Milan are also believed to be monitoring Lamela's team-mate, striker Rogelio Funes Mori. Described as the next Hernan Crespo by club captain Matias Almeyda, Funes Mori is the latest wonderkid to emerge at River Plate. He can play as a centre forward, and is equally as good on the left wing. Currently playing

for Argentina U18s, he is a target man who has good ariel ability great finishing skills and excellent technique. The 19 year-old who has scored 4 goals in the current domestic campaign is one of Argentina's most promising prospects and is wanted by a number of Europe's elite with Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Inter all expressing an interest.

Milan who are looking to build for the future under the guidance of sporting director Ariedo Braida look set to go back with a revised offer for Lamela and hope to build upon that by signing Paolo Henrique (Ganso). The attacking midfielder who currently plays for Santos is known for his pace and vision and has been dubbed the new 'Rivaldo'. When new Brazil coach Mano Menezes took charge of the national team following a dissapointing World Cup, Ganso was called up for his first squad and made his debut in a 2-0 victory over the United States. In August, Ganso suffered a set-back when he was injured in a match against Gremio, damaging his ligaments and is expected to make his come-back in March but Milan look ready to make their move to secure the services of one of the world's hottest properties.
