The 17 year-old tough tackling midfielder has been tipped for a big future with both Everton and England. This season he is expected to make a big impact in the Premier League and could be set for an extended run in the team. With a fine pre-season behind him and Everton strapped for cash, Barkley may see plenty of first team action, especially with the sale of the influential Mikel Arteta.
At just 17, Barkley has started the season in the first team and has produced mature performances against Queens Park Rangers in the Barclays Premier League and Sheffield United in the Carling Cup. He's already been fast-tracked into the England Under 21 squad and many are hoping he wil follow in the footsteps of other academy graduates like Rooney and Jack Rodwell.
Joining the club at the age of 11, many tipped Barkley to breakthrough last year but the starlet stuffered a fractured leg while playing for England's Under-19s in Belgium. Standing at 6"2, Barkley signed his first professional contract last December.
Many have compared Barkley to Rooney and he was rumoured to be subject to a £10 million bid from Chelsea boss André Villas-Boas on deadline day
The 19 year-old defensive midfielder should have already had his breakthrough season and was used heavily in Arsenal’s pre-season tour last year. At the 2010 Emirates Cup, Frimpong received praise by boss Arsene Wenger for his impressive performances, but last August Frimpong suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament in training, missing the entire season.
Born in Ghana, Frimpong has represented England at international youth level for the Under-17 side. Many people have drawn comparisons with the legendary Patrick Vieira, with some going so far to suggest Arsene Wenger is trying to mould Frimpong into the same type of player as Vieira.
With a good physical presence, Frimpong is a tough tackler and good passer of the ball. With an excellent burst of pace, Frimpong again caught the eye at the 2011 Emirates Cup during pre-season, with Juan Roman Riquelme picking out the starlet as the stand out player during their recent encounter with Boca Juniors.
A product of Tottenham's famous academy system, 20 year-old winger Andros Townsend has already given Tottenham fans a glimpse of what is to come when he made his debut against Charlton in an FA Cup third round match in January 2011. Making a scoring debut and putting in a man-of-the-match display, Townsend was almost immediately loaned out to Watford.
Struggling to make his first team breakthrough his loan spell was terminated just one month in and he was subsquently sent on loan to Millwall until the end of the season. An England youth international, Townsend has displayed all the qualities to succeed at the top level with energy, good range of passing and the ability to shoot from distance.
With Luka Modric looking set to leave the Lane and with tight purstrings for boss Harry Redknapp, there will be great expectations on Townsend to make the step up and establish himself as part of the first team squad. Having spent the past two seasons out on loan in the lower leagues, Townsend appears to have developed the physical side of his game.
When Liverpool signed Jamaican born Sterling in February 2010, the Merseyside club beat a host of teams to his signature including Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United. Regarded as the next big thing in English football he is one of the hottest properties in the country after impressing for both club and country. Such is the potential many believe he can go on to be as big as Wayne Rooney and Theo Walcott.
Sterling cost the Mersey outfit an initial fee of £600,000 which could rise up to as much as £5 million depending on appearances. The talented winger arrived in Kirby with a reputation for his pace, trickery and flair. On his Liverpool debut in an Under 18s match over neighbours Everton, Sterling was the star of the show and made a scoring start as they came from two goals behind to win 4-3 to confirm his rising reputation in the game.
On February 14 2011, Sterling orchestrated the Valentine's massacre as he helped Liverpool romp to a 9-0 victory over Southend in the FA Youth Cup as they progressed to the quarter-final. Sterling scored five goals, including a hat-trick after just 35 minute. The winger who is already training with the first team is an established member of England's Under-17s.
For all his problems off the pitch, Ravel Morrison remains one of Manchester United’s most promising talents. A technically gifted and skilful, creative midfielder, he is capable of scoring and creating goals. A versatile player he is able to play out wide, in the centre of the park or just behind the main striker.
He first came to prominence as a school in 2008/09 when he scored in United’s FA Youth Cup defeat to Chelsea in November 2008 whilst just 15 years old. Having initially signed a scholarship in July 2009, Morrison signed his first professional deal on his 17th birthday and is regarded as one of the best of his generation.
Last season, Morrison was instrumental in helping Man Utd win the FA Youth Cup, scoring the opener against Chelsea in the semi-final at Old Trafford, and added a further two in the second leg of the final against Sheffield United, helping his side ease to a 6-3 victory.
With Sir Alex Ferguson a great believer in his talent, he gave Morrison his first-team debut against Wolves in the League Cup, aged just 17 years old. A regular at international youth level, Morrison has continued to impress and has been capped up to Under-18 level.
Last season may have been all about the emergence of Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere, but make no mistake about it McEachran is quickly following suit. The 18 year-old who is a product of Chelsea’s Cobham academy has been hailed as the future of both club and country. A natural successor to Frank Lampard, the attacking midfielder recently signed a new five-year contract in June. A stand out performer in Chelsea’s pre-season tour, McEachran made his debut last season in the league and Championships League at just 17 years-old.
McEachran who primarily plays as an attacking midfielder has an excellent range of passing and is known for his ability to pick out a defence splitting pass, which has drawn comparisons to the recently retired Paul Scholes. McEachran has been capped at various youth levels on the international scene for England and is now an established member of the Under-21 side.
McEachran who was part of the England Under-17 side to win the European Championships in 2010. With Michael Essien missing a large part of the season and the inconsistent form of Mikel and Ramires, McEachran will be expected to feature much more in the forthcoming season and could well gatecrash Capello’s England squad.
Along with Ross Barkley, Hallum Hope is seen as one of Everton's brightest prospects coming through the academy system. Hallam joined Everton from Manchester City in 2005 and signed a full-time scholarship with the Blues in July 2010.
An integral part of the Blues' Under-16s set-up during the 2009/10 campaign, the striker also featured regularly for the Under-18s and was part of the Toffees' 2010 FA Youth Cup squad. Hallam made his first international appearance for England against Wales in the Victory Shield in October 2009, and scored twice for his country in the Young Lions' 3-1 win over Ukraine in France's Montaigu Tournament in March 2010.
Although he has represented England at international level, Hallam is also eligible to represent Trinidad & Tobago and Barbados. The striker has been a regular goalscorer at whatever level he has found himself and the 2010-11 campaign saw a great return of seven goals in nine appearances for the U17 team on their way to qualifying for the European Championship Finals. With Everton having no money to fund a move for a new striker, David Moyes could turn to the talented Hope.
Described by some as Liverpool’s answer to Jack Wilshere, 18 year-old Conor Coady has massive potential and has already been likened to Kop idol Steven Gerrard. A defensive midfielder, Coady is also able to operate at the heart of the defence. Composed in possession, Coady has excellent leadership skills and captained England to glory at their first ever European U17 Championships during the summer of 2010.
The second year scholar made his mark on the reserve team at the end of the 2009-10 campaign, having skippered the U18s throughout the season. Last season Coady was a key figure as the U18s finished as runners-up in the league. Earmarked for a bright future by Kenny Dalglish, Coady had a fine pre-season in the Far East and netted in his first appearance in a pre-season friendly with a Malaysia XI.
On the fringes of the first team, this season may come too soon for Coady to make a real impression on Liverpool's first team but fans should catch glimpses of the tough tackling midfielder. Coady will head up a new generation of talent at Anfield with Raheem Sterling, Jonjo Shelvey, John Flanaghan and Martin Kelly.
