English Eyes On Barca Stars

Various English tabloids have seen a number of Barcelona B stars linked to various Premiership sides over the past few weeks. Spanish radio station Com Radio claims that several English Premier League clubs, including Newcastle, Everton and Blackburn, would be interested in signing Barcelona B midfielder and Spanish youth international Oriol Romeu on loan. The 19 year-old who recently signed a new contract at the Nou Camp until 2012 has been capped up to Under-21 level and is highly rated by Pep Guardiola. With the defensive midfielder recently starring at the Uefa U19 European Championships, is release fee has been set at € 30 million and would welcome a chance to play competitive football in England's top flight. It remains to be seen whether the Spanish outfit would prepare to let out a player who has been a key influence in their recent success in the Segunda Division.

British tabloid paper The People claim that English Premiere League team Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing fellow Barcelona B midfielder and Spanish youth international Sergi Roberto. The 18 year-old is also contracted at the club until 2012 and is highly rated, but the emergence of other La Masia graduates such as Thiago Alcantara and Jonathan dos Santos means that Sergi Roberto’s future in the starting lineup is in doubt and the West London club will be looking to lure the U19 international in a similar fashion to arch rivals Arsenal

English trio Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United remain keen on Barcelona starlet Thiago Alcantara according to Talksport. Hailed as the jewel in the crown of Barcelona's famous La Masia academy, he has been described by Real Madrid legend Fernando Hierro as the best Spanish youth prospect. The Spain Under-19 international's contract with the Catalan club is set to expire on January 31, but the player has himself declared that he intends to wait for a new deal. With the New Year just round the corner, there has been speculation that the son of 1994 World Cup winner Mazinho could be on his way out of the club. The Gunners and United are believed to have made contact with Mazinho concerning the Italian-born midfielder, while Manchester City were also previously linked with a move for the youngster. In the summer transfer window, Alcantara was subject of an audacious loan bid by Owen Coyle's ambitious Bolton side, which also saw Real Madrid starlets Marcos Alonso and Rodrigo Moreno join the club. Thiago who has impressed in the limited first team opportunities has been heavily protected by coach Pep Guardiola who see's the Spanish U19 prodigy as the natural successor to Xavi. Meanwhile there is a transfer chase on for 24 year-old Nolito who has arguably been Barcelona B's star player this season. The midfield ace has scored 7 goals in 16 games for Barcelona B and while Benfica head the queue, there is considerable interest from the English Premiership.
