Described as the hottest prospect outside the Premier League is 17 year-old strike sensation Connor Wickham who is currently impressing at East Anglian outfit Ipswich. The teenager has seen his stock rise in the last week after scoring his first professional hat-trick in a Championship match against Doncaster in a 6-0 victory. Scoring two goals from open play, Wickham completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot with just minutes remaining. The England Under-21 international is on the radar of a number of Premiership clubs who will by vying for his signature in the next transfer window. Having recently extended his contract at Ipswich until 2013, Wickham has been in fine form since the appointment of Paul Jewell at the helm. Liverpool, Tottenham and Newcastle are just some of the names registered with an interest in the player, with the striker being watched in person by Kenny Dalglish in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Hull.

Thought he did not score in the group stages, the influential figure went on to score two in the semi-final defeat of France and the winner against Spain. During the tournament, Wickham showed he has a good all round game and looks physically ready for English game. Despite his height, it would be unfair to label Wickham as merely a powerful target man. There is plenty more to his game and with excellent technique and an eye for goal it is little wonder Tottenham made a bid of £5 million for the highly rated teenager which was quickly rejected by the Suffolk based club in the summer transfer window of 2010.
Wickham is expected to reach a fee in the region of £15 million and Newcastle are expected to be heading the queue, armed with the cash from the sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool. However, the Ipswich wonderkid will attract attention from a number of potential suitors and Alan Pardew may face a fight on his hands from the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal who appear equally keen to sign one of the greatest young talents in English football. Wickham who turns 18 in March, has scored 5 goals in the present league campaign, including a spectacular goal against Sheffield United.
